Beatrice "Bea" Smith

Beatrice Bea Smith, 73, of Urbana, died at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in Vancrest of Urbana. She was born October 22, 1940 in Dayton, OH, a daughter of Leonard and Ellen Irene (Brown) Hanback. On November 21, 1959, Bea married Dennis Smitty Smith and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2012. She was a 1958 graduate of Fairlawn High School and attended Elkhart University; and a member of American Chianina Ladies Auxiliary. Bea was a long-time employee of the Urbana Vet Clinic; enjoyed reading, traveling to cattle shows and spending time with her family. Bea is survived by her children, Tim (Shawna) Smith of Cable, Steve (Penny) Smith of Bellefontaine, Jody (Robert) Helmig of Denver, CO, Mitch (Tammy) Smith of Marysville, Joellen (Ben) Edwards of St. Paris and Jacquie (Dave) Wray of Mason. Her grandchildren: Brittany and Zach Smith; Lauren, Hannah, and Connor Smith; Ryan, Jessica and Jami Helmig; Alexis, Jordan and Michele Smith; Ethan and Eli Edwards; Sarah and Monica Wray and one great-grandson, Wyatt Gossard. Bea is also survived by her siblings, Mary Jane (Bruce) Ware of Antioch, TN, Marlene Baker of DeGraff and Ray (Ann) Hanback of Columbus; sisters-in-law Janet (John) Small of Maplewood and Mim Hanback of Indiana as well as good friends Gary and Susie Hamman of New Washington and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dick Hanback, grandson, Rick Helmig and infant granddaughter Emma Edwards. The family will receive friends, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in the WALTER and SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana with services following at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiating.
