Cynthia L. Maxwell, 72, of Urbana, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana. She was born on October 10, 1941 in Urbana, the daughter of Claude and Catherine (McDonald) Shafer. Cynthia graduated from Zanesville High School and did applique work at Fashion Stitch. She was a true believer in God, enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, photography, cooking, movies and playing cards, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include 2 sons, John Maxwell and Julie of Urbana, and Michael Maxwell and wife Jennifer of Urbana; 2 daughters, Shelly Maxwell and fiancée Francis Long of Sarasota, FL, and Leslie OConnell of Dayton; son-in-law, Tony Russell of Urbana; grandchildren, Andrew, Matt, Donald, Colleen, Sean, Skylar, Madison, David, Waylon, Brian, Dylan, Brianne, Kaitlyn and Kasey; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Kyndra; 2 brothers, Joseph Shafer of Sarasota, FL and Mark Shafer of Brandon, FL; and 3 sisters, Janet Watkins of Urbana, Deborah Forrester and husband Donald of Sebring, FL and Jill Cleveland and husband Greg of Sebring, FL; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kelly Russell; and brother, Charles Shafer. The family wishes to thank Community Mercy Hospice for their care and service during her illness. Memorial contributions in Cynthias name may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Road, Springfield, OH 45504. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. The family is being served by WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.
