Dorothy Yvonne Ramey

December 22, 1941 — May 3, 2017

Dorothy Yvonne (Shepard) Ramey, 75, passed through the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 9:25 a.m. while her daughter, Debbie (Ramey) Fannin) held her hand and stroked her face. Dorothy’s last fight against cancer was tough, but short.
She was born in Urbana, OH on December 22, 1941 to her parents, Sylvia (Prater) and Carl Shepard, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her brothers, Ronny, Allen & Robert “Bob” Shepard. Dorothy is also preceded in death by the love of her life, Harry Ramey Jr.
Those left behind are her only sister, Shirley (Shepard) Holsinger and her husband, Harold. Surviving her also are her children, Rick (Tammie) Ramey, Terry Ramey and Debbie (DeWayne) Fannin. Dorothy was blessed with 6 grandchildren, including Brandy, Jenny, Melissa, Jessica, Elizabeth & Abby and their significant others. She will be missed by them, but especially by her numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also survived by her brothers-in-law, Bill (Shelia) Ramey and Robert (Toni) Ramey. Dorothy is also survived by her group of best friends and coffee buddies, Betty & Jeff Bidwell, her sister-in-law Dolly Ramey and other good friend, Judy.
Jr. and Dorothy were also foster parents to Teri (Frizzell) Hutchinson and 2 of her boys, Jamie and Don. Both now have children of their own and knew Dorothy as their grandma as well.
Dorothy retired from Honeywell Grimes on Russell Street and was a member of their Quarter-Century Club. She enjoyed going to garage sales and always wanted to be the first one there. While Jr. was alive, they enjoyed camping at Lake Erie and fixing mushrooms for Jr.
A graveside service will be held at Kings Creek Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Friends and family are invited to come and feel free to dress in casual attire. Pastor Gary Raymond will be leading the service, but please come with a story or a memory to share about Dorothy. The family would rather celebrate her life, rather than her death.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all who cared for her during her illness and a special thank you to the Hospice caregivers and Walter & Lewis Funeral Home for the final arrangements.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
