Eleaner Jane Gove

Eleaner Jane Gove, age 99, of Columbus and Urbana, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015, surrounded by family at Vancrest of Urbana. She was born on September 22, 1915, to Mary Elizabeth Karg Rooney and Thomas Rooney in Springfield, Ohio. She was a 1933 graduate of Urbana High School and married Roger Madden Gove in 1938. Jane was instrumental in her husband Rogers accomplishments in his long term career in the field of mental health and disabilities. Together they were among the founders of the Council for Retarded Children in Franklin County in which they were active for many years. Jane was a long-time member of Parkview United Methodist Church in Columbus and, more recently, became a member of the Urbana United Methodist Church upon moving to Hearth and Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Gladys Hunter, husband Roger, daughter Joann, and son Jon. She is survived by daughters, Janet (David) Dye of Mutual, OH, and Judith Gove of Grove City, OH; daughter-in-law, Aurelia Gove; as well as nieces, Ginny Petty and Harriet Yelin. She adored and was adored by her 9 grandchildren: Jennifer (Ken) Miller, Rebecca (Ron) Heron, Stephen (Rebecca) Dye, Amy (Scott) Blanton, Sarah (Paul) Kelly, Daniel (Yasmin) Dye, Kevin (Emmanuelle) Webb, Jon B. (Carrie) Gove and Bryan (Jill) Gove; and 28 great-grandchildren: Andrew, Carrie, Thomas and Emilie Miller; Ben, Annie, Katie, Nate, Will and John-David Heron; Ashley, David, Isaac, Abby and Zach Dye; Joselyn Gove; Ellie, Maggie, Jon Luke and Samuel Blanton; Montgomery and Margaux Webb; Garrison Gove; Phineas, Zane and Frances Kelly; Eliza and Nathalie Dye. She is also survived by many Rooney and Karg cousins. She will be remembered as one having a true servant's heart by all who knew her, especially her grateful family. Friends may call Friday, June 26, 2015from 5-7 p.m. at Walter & Stowe Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, and Saturday, June 27, 2015 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Urbana United Methodist Church, 238 N. Main St., Urbana. A celebration of Jane's nearly 100 years will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Urbana United Methodist Church. Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Franklin County Residential Services, 1021 Checkrein Ave., Columbus, OH 43229.
