Gladys Dixon

Gladys Dixon, 92, of Westville, died at 9:40 p.m. at Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana, on Thursday, September 12, 2013. She was born July 22, 1921 in Jackson County, OH, the daughter of William and Estella Creech. She was a homemaker, attended Westville United Methodist Church, loved to garden and was a sewing 4-H advisor for over 40 years. Gladys was also a 50-year member of the Valley Garden Club. Survivors include a son, Harold Dixon and his wife Nadine of Terre Haute; a daughter, Candice Phillips and her husband Jim of Westville; grandchildren, Bill Dixon and wife Abbey of Springfield, Brian Dixon and wife Becky of Terre Haute, Brandy Hennings and husband Billy of Westville, Aaron Phillips and Ember Burke of Millerstown; great-grandchildren, Alexis Dixon, Austin Dixon, Skylar Linton, Savannah Linton, Addie Hennings and Libby Hennings,and Jesse and Kaylee Burke; brother, Wayne Creech of Pataskala; sister, Ruth Henson of West Jefferson; sister-in-law, Helen Creech of Minford; special cousin, Dorothy Gilliam; two nieces and one nephew; and special friends, Patty Brown, Connie Sliker and fellow garden club members. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Vancil Dixon; son, Gary Ralph Dixon; and brother, Emerson Creech. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2013 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Chuck Glover and Pastor David Yinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Terre Haute Cemetery.
