Herbert Hoover Collins

Rev. Herbert Hoover Collins, 84, of Urbana, went to be with his Lord at 5:10 P.M. Saturday, January 4, 2014, In Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana, He was born February 27, 1929 in Ironton, OH, a son of David C. and Angeline (Birchfield) Collins. Hoover, a WWII Navy Veteran, retired from Plastic Research Products, a division of Grimes Mfg. A Pastor for 50 years, his last church he served and was a member of was New Hope Church of Urbana. He enjoyed ministering especially to the Senior Citizens. Hoover was an avid fisherman and hunter. Survivors include, daughters; Beverly Ann Adams and her husband Hobert, DeNeese Lawrence all of Urbana, Danielle Smith, Ann Arbor, MI; step-daughters, Tammy Detwiler and her husband Tim, of Urbana, Tina Moore, of Kentucky; 5 grandchildren, Holly Stephens of Springfield, Bradley Smith, Hoby Adams II, Ryan Smith all of Urbana, Brian Michael Smith, of Ann Arbor MI; step granddaughter, Niecie Nye, of Springfield; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Frances of Springfield, Phyllis Dunn of Hawthorne, FL; brothers Bobby Collins of Urbana, Freddy Collins of NJ, Douglas Collins of Jacksonville, FL, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents; wives, Bertie and Lillian; sisters, Thelma Shy, Lily Wells, Clara Mosier; brothers, William, Paul, David, Winfield Shorty Collins, and a half- brother Tom Collins. The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2014 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana where the services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014 with Pastor Doug Hauser and Pastor Jesse Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
