Jimmy Reese Riggs

Jimmy Reese Riggs, 65, of Urbana, died at 7:20 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born December 13, 1947 in Carroll County, TN, the son of Buford and Alma (Chester) Riggs. Jimmy lived most of his life in Vineland, NJ where he attended school. He was an employee of Limpert Brothers Inc. for 31 years until his retirement in 1995. He moved to Urbana in 2005. Jimmy never met a stranger. Many people knew him as he made his rounds to various senior activities. Jimmy especially loved attending the Champaign County Fair every year where he made it his goal to have his picture taken with the Fair Queen. His passion in life was attending the Church of God of Prophecy, talking and music. He loved gospel music and now the words of most of those songs are a reality for him. Survivors include sisters, Wilma Riggs of New Port Richie, FL and Norma Weill and her husband Thomas of Urbana, OH; brothers, Larry Riggs and his wife Janet of Kokomo, IN and David Riggs and his wife Barbara of Cleveland, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bobby Riggs and sister Shirley Riggs Vitiello. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 with his brother, Pastor David Riggs, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, West Liberty. Contributions may be made in Jimmys memory to the Urbana Champaign County Senior Center, 701 S. Walnut St., P.O.
