Luella Fern Cummins, 93, of Urbana, passed away on Thursday evening, May 14, 2015 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana surrounded by family. She was born on May 24, 1921 in Dayton, KY, to James and Jessie Shelton. On July 6, 1940 she married Audrey Lee Cummins, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2001. Survivors include her daughter, Luella Kennedy of Urbana, and sister, Kate Wright of Silver Grove, KY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Norman (Lori) Kennedy of Cable, Debbie Smith of Urbana, Tammy (Sam) Roberts of Urbana, Ron (Michele) Riley of St. Paris, and Robert (Angie) Riley of Utah; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and all her adopted children who have called her Mom, Mother Fern and Grandma. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Margaret Cummins; a daughter, Judy Moreno and her husband Bob Moreno; son-in-law Norman Kennedy; and a grandson, Randy Smith. Fern attended Mt. Carmel Friends Church. She met most of her adopted family by having numerous garage sales over the last 40 years. Family will receive friends 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Mt. Carmel Friends Church, 3470 Kennard Kingscreek Road, Cable, with Pastor Jereme Proudman officiating. Burial will follow in Jenkins Chapel Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Sterling House (Brookdale) of Urbana and its wonderful staff where she called home for the past 11 months.
