Miller "Gene" Dibert

Miller Gene Dibert passed away on January 9, 2016 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana due to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Urbana, Ohio and was the son of Miller J. and Lottie Dibert. He spent the majority of his life in Champaign County. He attended Concord High School where he played basketball and baseball. He attended Urbana and Wittenberg Universities as well as the International Correspondence School. Gene served in the United States Army and Army reserves for 6 years. His first job was with Bulldog Electric in Bellefontaine and he later worked for the Oliver Corporation in Springfield. He was subsequently employed for 41 years at Grimes Manufacturing Company (now Honeywell) where he enjoyed his job. He started as a draftsman and retired as Vice President of Sales and Market Development in 2000. He loved working with people and always tried to find the positives in everyone. Gene loved to golf and play the piano. He worked with various civic organizations and was active in the Graham Foundation, which provides scholarships to college and technical school bound seniors. He was a sports fan and followed the Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and step brothers and sisters: Clemen Dibert, Milton Dibert, Kenneth Dibert, Garnard Dibert, Ilene Runyan, Beulah Streets, Maxine Clark, William Fleming, Walter Fleming and Wilber Fleming. Most of all, Gene was truly in love with and dedicated to Eleanor, his wife and soul mate of 59 years. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, his daughter and son-in law, Stephanie and Kym Moore from Urbana and his son and daughter in law, Drs. Steven and Kanchan Dibert of Gastonia, North Carolina. His four grandchildren are: Andrew Moore of Beavercreek, OH, Emily Moore of Madison, Wisconsin, and Karia Dibert and Kassi Dibert of Gastonia, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Etoil Evans of Urbana and his sister-in-law, Ilene Dibert of Norman, OK. There are several surviving nieces, nephews and friends. Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 2-5 P.M. in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at 10 A.M. followed by a graveside service at Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana. A luncheon will follow at the Urbana United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Champaign Family YMCA, Community Drive, P.O.
