Nemesia "Ama" Cardosa

October 31, 1917 — July 24, 2014

Nemesia Ama Cardosa, 96, was born on October 31, 1917 in Pesqueria Chica, Nuevo Leon Mexico to parents Andres and Juanita Guerra. She peacefully went to our loving Father on Thursday, July 24, 2014 in her residence. Nemesia (Mencha) was better known to her family as Ama, which means Love. She was married to her loving and caring husband, Esteban, on June 4, 1934. They would have been married 80 years, though he preceded her in death in 1987. They were blessed with 7 children. They spent most of their lives living in Texas and Ohio. She truly had a green thumb, spending her working years planting and harvesting crops at Murphys Greenhouse, Michaels Farm, Bakers farm, Botkins farm, Parkers farm, Channel farm and Corn Nuts. At the young age of 70, Ama became a United States citizen and was proud to acknowledge that her sons proudly served in the armed forces. Ama was a devoted Catholic and a true humanitarian living the word of God, recognizing everyone as her brother and sister. People would often meet her at local yard sales and flea markets where she would love to find good deals. She was always a classy lady in her dresses, jewelry, shoes and demeanor. Ama is preceded in death by husband Esteban; brothers, Polo, Juan, Lalo, Isabel and Manuel Guerra; sister, Angela DeLeon; sons-in-law, Robert Holbrook and James Emans; and granddaughter, Sherri Cardosa. Ama is survived by her sister, Maria Garcia; children, Esteban Veto (Ellen) Cardosa of Springfield, Emma (Robert) Holbrook of Urbana; Eli (Susan) Cardosa of Grand Rapids; Alex (Anna) Cardosa of Springfield, Gilbert (Beverly) Cardosa of St. Paris, Eva (Jim) Emans of Celina and Maria (Martin) Goeser of Springfield; 29 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 19 great, great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 109 S. Illinois Ave., Weslaco, TX. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Weslaco, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to St. Teresa Hispanic Ministries, 1827 N. Limestone St., Springfield, OH 45503. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.walterfunerals.com. Although we will truly miss our Ama, we are assured she will be a constant angel by our sides.
