Richard Eugene Baker

Richard Eugene Baker, 84, of Urbana, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 14, 1931 in Clark County, OH, a son of Willard and Goldie (Young) Baker. He was a 1949 graduate of North Hampton High School and served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the 64th Tank Battalion during the Korean War. He later retired as a civilian employee after 30 years from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Richard was a longtime member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church and member of the Urbana-Champaign County Senior Center. He loved gardening and wood-working, including making furniture. Survivors include daughters, Karen S. Baker of Urbana and Beverly K. Parcels of Arizona; son, Michael (Beverly) Baker of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren, Jamie (Jeff) Newcomb of Arizona and Danielle (Tyler) Buck of Arizona; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Donna Hill of Springboro, Vernon (Carolyn) Baker of Springfield and Karl (Jeanne) Baker of St. Paris; close friend and neighbor, Bradley Mullins; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a Cock-a-Poo dog Duffy and a cat Mookie. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Mary Virginia (Canter) Baker; brother, Lewis Baker; and sister, Doris Bacon. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015 with Pastor David S. Yinger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Richards memory to Terre Haute United Methodist Church, 5938 State Route 55, Urbana, OH 43078.
