Shirley J. (Stanhope) Lynn

Shirley J. (Stanhope) Lynn, 76, of Urbana, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana. She was born September 25, 1936 in Urbana, the daughter of Helbert Buckney and Evelyn Stanhope, and was raised by her grandfather, Walter Stanhope. Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Urbana High School and was a mother and grandmother first. She worked at the Champaign County Nursing Home for numerous years, worked for the Champaign County Fair Board for 25 years and had a booth at the Champaign County Flea Market. Shirley never knew a stranger. Survivors include three sons, Stacy Mays and girlfriend Tracy Landacre of Marysville, Timothy Mays and wife Kathy of Urbana, and Billy Lynn and fiancée Teresa Brandyberry of Urbana, grandchildren, Billy Lynn Jr., Michael Smith, Vanessa and Kelsey Lynn, Nicolas and Colton Mays, Latosha Mays-Conwell, Andrew, Rickey and Elisha Deere, Nicole Mays, Mya Mays, Aaliyah Landacre, Lauren and Clayton Henson and Nathan Johnson, great-grandchildren, Ariel, Ethan, Gracin, Owen, Gunner, Ashton, Brendon, Jeremiah, Dwayne, Dommanik, Ty, Tamarra, Kanayn, and Isaiah, two sisters, Ruth Buckney of Urbana and Teresa Montalvo of Urbana, and special cousins, Sandra Joseph and Christopher Shelton. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, William “Bill” Lynn, and brother, Robert Neil Buckney. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, where a service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 with Rev. Carl Vactor officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery.
