Vivian Marie Leasure

August 7, 1927 — October 12, 2016

Vivian “Marie” Leasure, 89, of Troy, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
Marie was born on August 7, 1927 in Mechanicsburg, OH to James “Jimmy” and Louise (Anderson) Stockwell. Her life was full as she married Carmel Hitchcock and became mother to son Jerry and daughter Kathie, but in November of 1948, Carmel was killed in an auto accident, leaving Marie to raise her two very young children.
She was married to John Spangler and Eldon Davidson, both deceased. She then married Howard Leasure from St. Paris and together they enjoyed camping, fishing and trips on Howard’s motorcycle and grandchildren. Many stories can be told by her grandchildren of fun times of fishing and rides on Grandpa’s amphibian vehicle.
Marie and Howard were both long-time employees of Grimes Manufacturing. Following the passing of Howard, she moved to Troy to be near her daughter, but lived by herself “the way she wanted” until she became ill just a month ago. She enjoyed lunches and dinners and always provided her scalloped corn for family gatherings.
Marie will be remembered and loved by her daughter, Kathie (Ron) Erwin of Troy; grandchildren, Lisa (Dave) Smiley, Matthew (Kim) Erwin and Shelley Erwin, all of Troy; and Sean and Toby Hitchcock; great-grandchildren, Joshua Smiley of Nashville, TN, Hannah Smiley, Zachariah and Braedon Erwin of Troy.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Miller of White Bluff, TN; nieces and nephews, Joyce (Lee) Waggoner of White Bluff, TN, Jane (Wilbur) Carter of Urbana, Linda Rigsby and Danny Stockwell of South Vienna and Butch Miller of Urbana; many great-nieces and nephews; also daughter-in-law, Patricia Hitchcock of Sacramento, CA and many family members and friends of the Leasure family, family members in Paintsville, KY and sister-in-law, Gail Brown of Arizona.
Marie was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Hitchcock; husband, Howard Leasure; sister, Mildred Snapp; brother, Herbert “Jiggs” Stockwell; and niece, Barbara McKellop.
A very special thank you from the family goes out to the staff of the Upper Valley Medical Center Emergency Department and Troy EMS, the nurses and staff in the Patient Care Unit and Hospice Unit.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016 in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dave Leckrone officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Troy, 110 W. Franklin St., Troy, OH 45373 or to the American Cancer Society, Ohio Southwest Region, 2808 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45206.
