Walter J. Poe, Sr., 92, of Urbana, died at 5:32 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana. He was born on March 2, 1920 in Grafton, WV, the son of Stephen Lewis and Nevia Edna (Austin) Poe. Walter served in the United States Army during WWII and retired from Howard Paper Mill in 1984 after 44 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Freda R. (Hawkey) Poe, who he married August 22, 1942, sons, Walter J. “Butch” (Carolyn) Poe Jr. of Urbana and Douglas F. Poe of Maui, HI, son-in-law, Eugene Heisey of West Milton, OH, grandchildren, Brian N. (Cathy) Poe of Cable, OH, Kerri L. (David) Beavers of Urbana, OH, Donald E. (Kristy) Heisey of Pataskala, OH, Jeffrey S. (Chrisanne) Heisey of West Milton, OH, Steven L. (Tana) Heisey of Union, OH, Michael J. (Deborah) Heisey of Naples, FL, Ryan (Ali) Poe of Maui, HI, Dawn Poe of Tipp City, OH, great grandchildren, Lyndsey (Trent) Shepherd, Chad Heisey, Christine and Christopher Heisey, Alexandria and Niklas Heisey, Lindsay Rutter, Trevor Collins, Justin, Jonah, Jackson, Grace and Caleb Heisey, Cassey Poe, Colleen (Aaron) Bausch, Matthew Adams, Alyssa and Kyle Beavers, Pagena and Pacific Poe, great-great-granddaughter, Cloe Michaels, great-great-grandson, Conner Collins, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Jean Hawkey, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Judith A. Heisey, a sister, Mary Poe, and brothers, Paul Poe and Junior Poe. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the Walter and Smith Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, followed by a service at 10 a.m. Friday, December, 21, 2012 with Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will be held in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City.
