William "Mike" Michael Engle

Mike Engle, age 65 of Urbana, died at 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2014 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born to James William and Joan Elaine (Reams) Engle on April 2, 1949 in Urbana, Ohio. He attended school in Bellefontaine and West Liberty-Salem, graduating from West Liberty-Salem in 1968. From there, he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972. Mike enjoyed golf, woodworking and volunteer service. He was a dedicated volunteer at Cedar Bog Nature Preserve where he served on the Board of Trustees and also served as interim manager for the site. He was also a dedicated volunteer for the Champaign County Relay for Life, Mandys Team, and worked each year to help with a door for Logan Countys Doors of Encouragement, each event raising funds to help the fight against cancer. Mike enjoyed family above all things. Survivors include his wife Sally Ann (Davis), a son Scott (Lisa) of Zanesfield, Ohio, and grandchildren Chris Engle, Josie Kennaw, Baileigh Engle, Patrick Harvey, Jacob Harvey and Chandler Harvey, sisters Deborah Ann Turner of Rockford, Illinois, Karen Sue Huffman (Robert) of Marysville, Ohio, and Timothy J. Engle (Cindy) of Summerfield, Florida, several beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mike had many additional daughters and sons who were dear to his heart though not related by blood. He was preceded in death by his parents and in 2011 by his beloved daughter Amanda Meighan Engle Harvey (Joe). The family will receive friends to celebrate his life from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 in the WALTER AND SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014 with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Thoresen officiating. Inurnment will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery Mausoleum, Urbana.
