Elizabeth Ann Goode Alty, age 97, passed away August 20, 2023 in Alpharetta, Georgia where she had lived since 1998. Born September 24, 1925 in Urbana, Ohio, Elizabeth was the only child of Elzie Ray Goode and Retha Eva (Jenkins) Goode.  Elizabeth and Raymond L. Alty were united in marriage on June 12, 1952.  He preceded her in death on March 31, 2006 after 54 years of marriage, residing in Champaign County for 44 of those years. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Goode (Alty) Schaub and spouse, James G. Schaub of Alpharetta, GA, their children and spouses Erin A. (Schaub) Easley and John D. Easley of Alpharetta and their child, Aidan, as well as son Patrick J. Schaub and Casey (Dotterweich) Schaub of Marietta, GA and their children, Shelby and Claudia Jean.  Also surviving is Elizabeth’s son and spouse, Mark C. Alty and Kathleen (Trehune) Alty of Fredricksburg, VA, their children and spouses, daughter Samantha (Alty) Walker and Joseph Walker of Fredricksburg, VA, their sons, Thomas Alty of Detroit, Michigan, and son and spouse, Daniel Alty and Krissy (Works) Alty of Clarkston, MI and their two children Penelope and James Alty. Elizabeth spent her life in Urbana, Ohio and graduated from Urbana High School in 1943 and continued her education at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, where she received her Bachelors of Education degree.  During her time at Wittenberg, she joined the Delta Zeta Sorority of which she remained a member for 75 years, earning the Order of the Diamond Award.  Elizabeth’s love for children resulted in her teaching elementary school for over 25 years.  She began her teaching career at Cable Schools, Cable Ohio in 1947 teaching second grade, first grade and one year a dual kindergarten and first grade class.  She moved to Graham School district where she taught first grade.  During her time at Graham, she returned to school obtaining a kindergarten endorsement.  She taught kindergarten until she retired from Graham South in the mid 1970s. During her life, Elizabeth remained a life-long member of Messiah Lutheran Church, as were her parents.  She also remained a member of the Eastern Star, Caroline Chapter, #39 receiving her 80-year pin in 2022.  She and her husband Raymond traveled many places before and after her retirement and especially enjoyed, Belgium, England, Australia and New Zealand. 

The family will receive friends at the Messiah Lutheran Church on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 4-6 p.m.  A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., also at the church. A graveside service will follow the funeral at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 1013 E. Lawn, Urbana, Ohio 43078.
