George "Skip" Jackson

George Jackson, better known as “Skip,” age 88, of Urbana, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, September 11, 2026. He was born on April 29, 1938 to the late Elmer and Ruth Elizabeth (Seldon) Jackson. He was the second eldest son of six children. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ronald Jackson and Philip Allen Jackson, and sister, Jude (Jackson) Melton.

He was still grieving the loss of his beloved wife of 63 years, Willie Mai Jackson, affectionately known as “Sweetsville” by Skip.

He leaves behind his children, Elizabeth (Russell) McCollum, Rebecca (Robert) Pursley, and Philip (Kember) Jackson; sisters, Esther Jackson and Ruth Jackson; nephew, Michael (Heather) Melton; and great-niece, Hayley Melton; along with a host of spiritual nieces, nephews, spiritual children, grand and great-grandchildren he cherished; as well as enough houses, buildings, and materials to establish a medium-sized city.

Skip dedicated his life to serving Jehovah. He was baptized in 1951 at the age of 13. Although being young, he took his relationship with Jehovah seriously. He allowed it to fuel his personal studies of the scriptures and his desire to help others to learn about the Bible. Even as a young teenager, he would read the Bible at night by candlelight with a glass of milk and a pack of graham crackers until the early hours of the morning. At one time, he had over 1000 scriptures memorized. This early foundation launched him into many aspects of spiritual activities. These include engaging in the door-to-door preaching and teaching work, working and speaking publicly at Kingdom Halls, Assembly Halls, and convention venues. He was heavily involved working on numerous theocratic building projects.

Skip had learned multiple skills over the years. He was an architect, builder, electrician, as well as many other trades. If you had a question, Skip was the man to ask. There are many projects that he was involved in every step of the development. However, he never boasted about what he could do. He just worked hard and smiled while doing it. These qualities made it easy to want to be in his presence. He just loved helping people without expecting anything in return. However, it was known that a chocolate cake would give him the fuel to continue.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 4:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 700 State Route 54, Urbana, Ohio 43078. Expressions of sympathy are forwarded to the family by visiting www.walterfunerals.com

Skip’s courageous example inspired all who knew him to stay the course on the ‘narrow road’ until we see him and Willie again. As Skip would say, “Catch you later, yes sir”
