Harold M. Young, 101, died Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Forest Glen Health Campus, Springfield, Ohio.
Born July 17, 1916 in Essex, Ohio, he was a son of Wayne W. and Bessie Mae (Williamson) Young. During his youth, his family moved to Mingo, Ohio, where he met his wife, Mildred L. Lantz. He was a faithful and active member of the Mingo United Methodist Church for many years, where he served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and musician. Upon moving to Urbana, he attended the Urbana United Methodist Church. Harold retired from the SPECO Division of Kelsey-Hayes, Springfield, Ohio. A skilled self-taught organist, upon retirement he and Mildred, an accomplished pianist, dedicated over 25 years in volunteer service by providing music to several nursing homes in the community. Their weekly visits were warmly anticipated by residents and staff at each location.
Harold's deep Christian faith was his abiding core principle and motivation for living. His reserved manner reflected his secure inner foundation of Christian conviction and perseverance, nurtured by extensive daily reading and prayer. His counsel was wise, his support for family and friends was unshakable, and his gifts to the less fortunate were generous. His own living was a revered life example for his family and many more who knew him.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, brother William, and sisters Wanda Smith, Gladys Barnett, and Mildred Guilliam.
Survivors include his daughters Linda (Mark) Bayer of Fairborn, and Kathryn Murphy of Springfield, and son David Young of Springfield; three grandchildren Susan (Mark) Winters, Nancy Young, and Amy Burlingame; and three great-grandchildren Hannah Essick, Shane Essick, and Rachel Winters.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Steven Polsley and his staff, the staff at Forest Glen Health Campus, Ohio’s Community Mercy Hospice and Dr. Richard Darr, for the compassionate care they provided to Harold.
