Helen L. Evans, 78, after a lifelong battle with muscular dystrophy, passed away peacefully in her daughters home on May 4, 2016. She was born April 6, 1938 in Ironton, OH, to Darlene and Roy Massie. On September 21, 1957, she married her husband of 57 years, Bill Evans, who preceded her in death on August 12, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Holycross, and brothers, Bunk, Ernie and Funny Massie. Helen was an avid Cincinnati Reds and NASCAR fan and loved spending time with all of her grandkids. Helen is survived by two children, Craig (Becky) Evans of Urbana and Brenda (Ed) Donnaker of Yellow Springs; a brother, Homer Massie of Xenia; grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer) Evans of Urbana, Cori (Jason) Curtis of Springfield, Jason (Ashley) Donnaker of Springfield, Erynne (JR) Ferryman of Springfield, Caleb Evans of Urbana, Casey Evans of Urbana, and Erica (David) Brewer of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Nick and Katie Curtis, Jay and Laurali Donnaker, Lilly, Peyton and Trey Ferryman, Thomas, Austin and Brooke Evans and Allison and Stephanie Brewer; and a special niece, Lori Holycross Morgan of Urbana, who visited often with gifts and cards. A special thank you to the wonderful and caring nurses and aid of Crossroads Hospice. They were awesome. Per her wishes, Helens body was cremated and will be buried beside her husband in Grandview Cemetery in Urbana. Friends and family will gather for a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016. Arrangements have been entrusted to WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.
