Kathleen L. (Hunter) Craig Sowers, 83, of Urbana, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in Springfield Regional Medical Center.
She was born on April 23, 1933 in Skaneateles, NY, a daughter of Guy and Elva (Boldman) Hunter. Kathleen worked as a teacher’s aide for Urbana City Schools and retired after 30 years of service. She also served as director of the Urbana Teen Center for 15 years and was a past board member of the Cancer Association of Champaign County.
Kathleen was a past board member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and supported its clothing and toy drives. She taught bible studies, volunteered for the teaching and reading program for Urbana City Schools and enjoyed singing and playing piano. She also was an honorary grandmother to many.
Survivors include her husband, William Sowers; sons, Toby (Kay) Craig and Jeffrey (Pam) Craig; stepdaughter, Mary Beth (Clyde) Miller; grandsons, Matthew Craig, Clayton (Jessica) Craig and Shaun Craig; stepgrandsons, Bill Moore Sr. and Wayne (Josephine) Moore; great-grandchildren, Joshua Craig, Emily Craig, Michah Craig, Max Craig and Miles Craig; two step-great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn (Sam) Hartzler of Meza, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Elva Hunter; first husband, Marion W. Craig in 1975; and stepdaughter, Sharon Moore.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 in the Walter & Lewis Funeral Home, Urbana. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the Messiah Lutheran Church, 1013 East Lawn Avenue, Urbana, with Pastor Scott Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
