Michael Wayne (“Mike”) McKellop of Urbana passed away surrounded by his family on May 4, 2026, at Springfield Regional Medical Center.
He was born on April 6, 1953, in Urbana, Ohio, to Merle and Louise (Castle) McKellop. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Johnson, on February 23, 1973.
Mike is survived by his wife of more than 53 years, Karen McKellop; his son, Aaron (Angela) McKellop of Lebanon, Ohio; his daughter, Jayme (Joshua O’Donnell) McKellop of Lake Forest, Ill.; his four grandchildren, Alyssa and Abby McKellop and Catherine and Nathaniel O’Donnell; his sisters, Nora (Richard) McCain and Patricia Dunlap; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard “Dick” McKellop. Mike was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather.
Mike graduated from Urbana High School in 1971. He worked at Grimes Manufacturing for 15 years and then worked 24 years at Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant. After his retirement from Honda, he served as the Head of Maintenance at First Presbyterian Church in Urbana. Mike prided himself on being a good steward for the church. Mike grew in his faith through his deep connection with the First Presbyterian Church and treasured his relationships with the church community.
Mike loved classic cars. In 1977, he purchased a brown ‘77 Pontiac Grand Prix. After selling it in the early 90s, his son helped him locate and repurchase his beloved car in 2022. He spent the last four years exhibiting it in car shows in the greater Urbana area and won several awards.
Mike exemplified the values of hard work and dependability. He always prioritized making sure others were taken care of. He was loyal, authentic, and had a great sense of humor. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren.
A visitation hour will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. with a luncheon to follow at First Presbyterian Church, 116 W. Court St., Urbana, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana and the Cancer Association of Champaign County.
