Richard Eugene Baker, 84, of Urbana, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 14, 1931 in Clark County, OH, a son of Willard and Goldie (Young) Baker. He was a 1949 graduate of North Hampton High School and served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the 64th Tank Battalion during the Korean War. He later retired as a civilian employee after 30 years from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Richard was a longtime member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church and member of the Urbana-Champaign County Senior Center. He loved gardening and wood-working, including making furniture. Survivors include daughters, Karen S. Baker of Urbana and Beverly K. Parcels of Arizona; son, Michael (Beverly) Baker of Mansfield, OH; grandchildren, Jamie (Jeff) Newcomb of Arizona and Danielle (Tyler) Buck of Arizona; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Donna Hill of Springboro, Vernon (Carolyn) Baker of Springfield and Karl (Jeanne) Baker of St. Paris; close friend and neighbor, Bradley Mullins; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a Cock-a-Poo dog Duffy and a cat Mookie. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Mary Virginia (Canter) Baker; brother, Lewis Baker; and sister, Doris Bacon. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015 with Pastor David S.
