Robert F. Bidwell, 78, of Urbana, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2016 at home, peacefully in his sleep.
He was born February 15, 1938, the son of the late Curry Bidwell and Florence (Bidwell) Jackson. Robert was a graduate of Urbana High School and worked for the Urbana Police Department for 10 years. Sgt. Bidwell was honored as Rotary Club Police Officer of the year in 1973. He went on to work at Honeywell until his retirement in 2004.
Robert enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed collecting old books, movies and magazines and was interested in music and history, spending many years researching his family tree.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty (Nichols) Bidwell; sons, Robert A. and Jeffery; daughters, Tamara (Vernon) Byers, Jr. and Teresa Roberts; 3 grandsons, Vernon Byers III, Douglas and Andrew Roberts; 1 great-grandson, Rügar Roberts; and his special hospice nurse, Emily.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August, 9, 2016 in the WALTER & STOWE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 12 p.m. with Pastor Tony Peña officiating. Entombment will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
