Roseanna Jackson, known affectionately as Rosie to many who cherished her presence, passed away on June 16, 2026, in Urbana, Ohio. Born Roseanna Tackett on September 6, 1949, in the hills of Floyd County, Kentucky, she carried with her the spirit of those mountain lands throughout her life—a spirit as vibrant and nurturing as the matriarch she became.
Rosie’s journey was marked by her deep-rooted love for family and tradition. She was the proud and beloved matriarch, a role she embraced with unparalleled grace and joy. Amongst her many endearing titles—Gigi, Mamaw, Mama Rose—each name was a testament to the strong bonds she formed with everyone who knew her. Hers was a love that spanned generations, a light guiding her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren through the tapestry of life.
Employed by Michael Family Farms for many years, Rosie was a devoted worker whose loyalty and kindness left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to labor alongside her. Yet beyond her diligent career, she found simple pleasures that defined her days. She delighted in the comfort of her favorite fried potatoes accompanied by a stiff black velvet drink, moments that nourished her soul as much as her heart. Her vivacious spirit was further revealed in her passions: the thrill of WWE wrestling matches, the treasure hunts at local yard sales, the artful strokes of coloring on her tablet, and the whimsical collections of cookie jars and piggy banks that adorned her home.
Rosie's passing was not an end but a poignant reunion with her beloved daughter, Sonja, who departed a year prior, in 2025. The profound sorrow of that loss was softened by the hope of their reunion, a testament to a mother’s enduring bond with her child.
She leaves behind a lineage that sparkles with life and love: her sons George Jackson and Kenny Jackson; her sister, Linda Dunaway along with sisters-in-law Sarah Tackett and Darlene Tackett; grandchildren Tristan Jackson, Harley Jones, Magen Legge, Beth Fudge, Sarah Burry, and Raven Jackson; and a blossoming array of great-grandchildren—Ayden Perez, A'Miya Irby, Aveah Fudge, Joshua Jones, Audrey Jones, Elana Brewer, Savannah Adams, A'Layla Legge, Abriella Fudge, Cypress Suttles, Janelle Trinkler, Jae'Lynn Howard, Jazlynn Trinkler, Asher Burry, Bella Burry, Jasper Jackson, and Tru Jackson—each one a living testament to her enduring legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Copley and Alma (Cantrell) Tackett; her daughter Sonja Jackson; daughter-in-law Cheryl Jackson; siblings Ruby (Cletus) Smith, Nancy Payton, Dianne (Eljay) Tackett, Windle Pearl Tackett, and Edgar Tackett; and brother-in-law Jesse Dunaway.
In remembering Rosie—Rosie the steadfast worker, the loving mother, the cherished Gigi, Mamaw, and Mama Rose—we remember a life rich with love and laughter, simple joys, and unyielding devotion. She was a woman who wore her many titles with pride and embraced life fully, leaving behind a legacy as enduring as the hills that first cradled her. In her memory, we hold close the warmth of her presence and the countless ways she enriched our lives.
