Shirley Brown Jacobs, age 88, of Mechanicsburg, Ohio died on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
She was born on 10/4/1937 in Kent, Ohio and was the daughter of Glenn and Esther
(Nethers) Brown. Shirley was a 1955 graduate of Northwestern high school. She
worked as an executive secretary at IH (International Harvester/Navistar) from 1961-
1991, retiring in the role of secretary to the plant manager after 30 years of dedicated
service. She was a past member of the Springfield and Mechanicsburg Bowling
Association and the Clark County Sportsman Club. A member of the American
Trapshooting Association, she placed second (Runner-up) in the state (Ohio), as well as
second (Runner-up) at the Grand American which is the largest trapshooting
championship in the world.
Shirley thoroughly enjoyed her 35 years of retirement. She treasured time with “the
girls" going to movies and playing cards. She loved spending time at home on the 50
acres she and her husband Jerry bought in 1966 between Mechanicsburg and Urbana.
Their dogs accompanied her on many walks there and later, once Jerry passed, she
shared the property with, and became "Mama" to, 4 feral kittens that showed up in her
shed.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Jacobs of 48 1/2 years,
stepdaughter, Bonita (Bonnie Jacobs) Allison, mother and father, sister, Joan Allbright
and brothers Marvin Brown and Melvin Brown. B-I-L Gail Jacobs and wife, Myrtle, B-I-L
Omar Jacobs and wife, Betty, B-I-L Lee Hengel and wife, Irma. She was also preceded
in death by her great-grandson, Jacob Slusher and her very dear, special friend, Milton
(Bub) Clark.
Survivors include three grandchildren: Carrie (Robert) Brown of Florida, Kevin (Nikki)
Allison of Xenia and Krista Allison of Akron, seven great-grandchildren: Erica Slusher,
Eden (Emily) Cotto, Jon Michael (Johnny) Allison, Ellianna Allison-Lopez, William (Billy)
Allison, Clarence (Brooke) Bucaro, and Taj Bucaro, and three (and 1/2) great-great-
grandchildren: Adalee Slusher, Paisley Bumgarner, Ke-Andre Young and Graylynn
Young (arriving September, 2026). She is also survived by her son-in-law, Jon Allison of
Springfield, Ohio and her sister, Mary Northup of Springfield, Ohio.
Shirley lived in Florida with her granddaughter and family for the last few months of her
life. A funeral home in their local area is serving the family in conjunction with Walter &
Lewis Funeral and Cremation Services in Urbana, Ohio . There will be no service at her
request.
Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the Mechanicsburg EMT, or the
Clark County Sportsman's Club in her memory.
