Susan Cirak Mason

Susan Cirak Mason of Urbana, Ohio died May 5, 2025, having lived 80 years of life filled with faith, joy, family, and good food. She was born September 22, 1944 to the late Alfred and Elizabeth Cirak in Norristown, PA. She is survived by her husband, Carlton Mason; son John, daughter, Mary, son and daughter-in-law, Ben & Heather, and grandchildren; Peyton and Sean Mason; sibling-in-laws, Nancy Cirak, David and Geraldine Mason, Kathy and Jeff Yoder, and Beverly Chrisman; and ‘exchange student children’; Emi & family and Dan & son, Phil; nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Charles Emerson & Mary Jane Mason, brother, Gene Cirak, and brother-in-law, Larry Chrisman.

Susan moved to Ohio when she was eight. She graduated from Upper Arlington H.S. in 1962 and completed her B.A in Art Education at Bowling Green State University. While attending BGSU she met her husband of 58+ years on a blind date. After working to raise her children and as an activity director at Urbana area nursing homes, she went back to school to earn her Masters of Theological Studies at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. She then worked several years at First Lutheran Church in Troy, followed by several years as a substitute teacher around Champaign County.

Susan loved dolls, gardening, sewing, travel, playing with her grandchildren, cooking and good food! She was a servant-leader and a lifelong volunteer beginning with Girl Scouts where she earned the Curved Bar (now Gold Award) as a girl, and as an adult she worked as a GS camp counselor, troop leader, and council volunteer. Susan also volunteered with Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, PFLAG, SCA, and at Messiah Lutheran Church where she led Clown Ministry and many Sunday school and summer vacation bible school classes.

The family invites you to join them for a memorial service at 11:00 AM, May 17, 2025 and/or a luncheon at 12:00 PM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1013 E. Lawn Ave, Urbana OH.
