Thomas William Allen

ALLEN, Thomas William, 87 passed away January 12, 2021 at Mercy McAuley Skilled Nursing Facility where he had resided since June 15, 2016.  Tom was born on July 3, 1933 in Urbana, Ohio to Thomas "Bud" Woodrow Allen and M. Pauline (Luellen) Allen.  He graduated from Urbana High School with the class of 1952. He attended Bliss Business College in Columbus, Ohio.  He retired from the Associated Press after many years of service, having worked in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio, Nashville, Tennessee, and Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to returning to Urbana, Tom had lived in Arlington, Massachusetts since 1974.  Tom was an avid sports fan and closely followed the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox, Ohio State Buckeyes Football and Cincinnati Reds.  Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth in 1942, his father in 1967 and his mother in 1997.  He is survived by several cousins, including Patricia Sprague, who has been his advocate for the past five years.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 12:30-1:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery's Chapel with his funeral beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Please wear a facial covering and social distance as well.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Walter & Lewis Funeral Home and condolences may be left to the family by visiting www.walterfunerals.com
