She Virginia “Ginny” Ann (Vanscoy) Bowers, age 86 of Urbana, Ohio passed away peacefully September 11, 2026. She was born September 13, 1939 in Urbana, Ohio, the daughter of the late Victor and Thelma (Watkins) Vanscoy. Virginia is survived by her son, Michael (Jennifer) Bowers, grandchildren: Nicholas, Noah, and Max Bowers, siblings: Susan (Ray) Dill and John (Debra) Vanscoy, best friend, Judy Russell, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Bowers and son, Douglas Bowers.

Virginia was a 1957 graduate of Urbana Local High School. On September 1, 1963, she married the love of her life, David M. Bowers, and together they shared many years of cherished memories until his passing in 2015. For more than 30 years, she was a devoted member of the Urbana Church of Christ in Christian Union, where she found great joy in worship and treasured her church family. A passionate horticulturist, she was a Master Gardener, a State Flower Judge in Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky, and an active member of the Goshen Garden Club. She ran marathons in New York for three years and spent 20 years as a member of the Greater Dayton Corvette Club. Professionally, she dedicated her career to public service, beginning her employment with the Probate Court in 1959, working with adoption families, and later retiring as Deputy Chief Probate Administrator. She also shared her love of flowers while working at Yocum's Flower Shop. Among her greatest joys were traveling with her mother and her dear friend Judy and spending time with the many family members and friends she loved dearly. 

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Walter and Lewis Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM, officiated by pastor David VanHoose. Burial to follow at Oak Dale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Urbana Church of Christ in Christian Union or the Cancer Association of Champaign County.
